Terry Gipson continued his silence today after one of his top donors, VOTE-COPE, sent a misogynistic, anti-woman mailer exploiting domestic violence victims during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The mailer, which was condemned by the governor on Tuesday, features a battered woman with a black eye and makes outrageous and false claims about Serino's record on protecting victims of domestic violence.
“Terry Gipson’s silence speaks volumes to the women of the Hudson Valley about his true commitment to their protection,” said Serino. “Despite Gov. Cuomo’s comments earlier this week, Terry continues to stand alongside his New York City leadership and special interests to back this despicable mailer. I have repeatedly declared my support for strong protection for victims of domestic violence. As a member of the Dutchess County Legislature I have worked in close concert with my colleagues to build a strong system to protect victims of domestic violence and will continue to do so as Senator.”
On Monday, Serino hosted a press conference condemning the mailer, and called on Terry to donate the $27,000 he has received from VOTE-COPE to Grace Smith House to support victims of domestic violence.
