Congressman Chris Gibson endorses Sue Serino for state Senate, calling her “the type of leader the Hudson Valley needs in Albany.”
Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-19) today announced his endorsement of Dutchess County Legislator and 41st state Senate District candidate Sue Serino (R,C,I- Hyde Park), saying she’s a great addition to the hometown team. During the press conference, Gibson highlighted Serino's local roots along with her commitment to protecting the community, building the local economy and reforming state government.
“I’m proud to run alongside a distinguished public servant like Sue Serino,” said Congressman Chris Gibson. “Sue shares my commitment to protecting freedoms, reducing taxes, and investing in education. She’s been a strong partner in opposing energy tax hikes that hurt our families and small businesses. And Sue supports sensible education policies that empower our children and teachers. Sue Serino is the type of leader the Hudson Valley needs in Albany.”
“I'm proud to have the support of Congressman Chris Gibson, a true statesman and patriot,” said Serino. “Congressman Gibson has been an outspoken proponent for our community and his support and mentorship are invaluable resources. Together I believe we can stop the corruption and partisanship that plagues both Albany and Washington to achieve lower taxes, reducing the cost of energy and building a better business climate.”
Chris Gibson served 24 years in the U.S. army, rising to the rank of Colonel. His career included four combat tours to Iraq, and separate deployments to Kosovo, the Southwestern US for a counter-drug operation, and most recently - just prior to his retirement - Haiti where he commanded the 82nd Airborne Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team (BCT) during the opening month of that humanitarian relief operation. Chris earned two Legions of Merit, four Bronze Star Medals, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge with Star, the Master Parachutist Badge and the Ranger Tab. For their actions in Mosul in support of the first national election in the new Iraq, his Battalion Task Force earned the Valorous Unit Award. He was elected to represent the 20th Congressional District in 2010 and re-elected in 2012 to represent the 19th Congressional District.
Serino is the owner-operator of Serino Realty, a former Hyde Park Town Board member and current Dutchess County Legislator. A lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, Sue started work as a waitress in a local restaurant at the age of 15. After taking on more responsibility as restaurant manager, she opened her first business in 1990 as a childcare provider. Sue launched her own real estate office in the city of Poughkeepsie in 2002. In 2003, Serino Realty moved to its current office in Hyde Park where today it employs 26 sales associates.
As a member of the Hyde Park Town Board, Serino voted against a 19 percent property tax increase she knew her constituents couldn’t afford. Since joining the County Legislature, she has continued to stand up for residents, despite the pressure to raise the tax burden. In December 2013, Serino did what she felt was right when she joined two of her Republican colleagues to vote against the proposed Dutchess County energy tax.
