Heroin and Prescription Drug Abuse

Heroin and prescription drug abuse has become a critical health concern in communities all across Dutchess and Putnam counties. Our young people are turning to heroin because it is cheap to get and its popularity has led to an increase in theft related crimes. While opiate addiction is tremendously difficult to fight, New York state needs to make attacking this drug problem a priority. We need to adopt a four-pronged approach (Prevention, Education, Enforcement and Treatment) to prevent this scourge upon our communities and the horrible tragedies our families face.
