DAY 5: STILL NO GIPSON APOLOGY FOR ANTI-WOMAN MAILER EXPLOITING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS

Terry Gipson continued his silence today after one of his top donors, VOTE-COPE, sent a misogynistic, anti-woman mailer exploiting domestic violence victims during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The mailer, which was condemned by the governor on Tuesday, features a battered woman with a black eye and makes outrageous and false claims about Serino's record on protecting victims of domestic violence.

GOV. CUOMO CALLS PRO-TERRY MAILER ‘DISGUSTING’

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has denounced the controversial mailing that was recently sent by Terry Gipson's supporters to women throughout the 41st Senate District.  The mailing, which uses a graphic image of a battered woman, was criticized as “disgusting” and “outrageous” Tuesday evening by the Governor.

According to Gov. Cuomo, “I’ve seen a lot of cheap campaign stunts, but this is one of the more disgusting ones I’ve ever seen,” adding that it, “exploits the women’s equality movement.” Gov. Cuomo made his comments to the Buffalo News regarding the same mailer that was sent out in Serino’s district.

GIPSON, NEW YORK CITY MAYOR RESORTING TO UNETHICAL MEASURES IN BLATANT ATTEMPT TO BUY ELECTION

Today’s New York Daily News  highlights the extreme measures Terry Gipson, Bill de Blasio and their ultra-liberal New York City allies will resort to in order to keep the 41st District Senate Seat out of the hands of someone who truly represents Hudson Valley values. After voting with New York City leadership 96 percent of the time, failing to condemn their exploitive and misogynistic mailers and now taking their dirty money, it’s clear Terry Gipson stands with the most out-of-touch members of New York City’s special interests.

If these allegations are true, today’s report includes potentially serious violations of state election law, including donors being directed to over-contribute to my opponent despite already reaching the maximum contribution limits. Since Terry has already exposed his lack of concern for ethics by voting to shut down the Moreland Commission, I will call today on the U.S. Attorney to immediately investigate if Terry Gipson and Putnam Democratic Committee Chairman Ken Harper knowingly and willfully attempted to hide the true identity of his donors to avoid contribution limits. Today’s reports make it even more clear that Terry and his New York City allies have only one agenda in mind and that won’t be an agenda for Hudson Valley families.

The mailer, which depicts a domestic violence victim, attempts to claim Sue Serino would not stand up for abused women. However, throughout her campaign Serino has reiterated her support for victims of domestic violence and affirmed her support for tougher laws to protect victims.

SERINO LAUNCHES EARLY ABSENTEE VOTER EFFORT AHEAD OF GENERAL ELECTION

Dutchess County Legislator and 41st state Senate District candidate Sue Serino (R,C,I– Hyde Park) recently announced the launch of the “18 Vote Project,” an effort dedicated to making sure those who can’t vote on Election Day make their voice heard through absentee voting. The project, using the hashtag 18voteproject, will use social media and grassroots efforts to educate voters on what they need to do to successfully cast their absentee ballot and ensure their voice is heard in 2014.

“The name of the project comes from the fact that two years ago, control of the state Senate was decided by a drawn out legal battle over vote counting in one race which was ultimately decided by 18 votes out of nearly 135,000 votes cast,” said Serino. “Polls show that the race for the 41st Senate District could very well decide the balance of power in the Senate once again, between New York City interest and legislators who truly represent our upstate values. I want to make sure voters make an informed choice and make their voice heard. Absentee voting is a convenient way to vote before Election Day, either at the Board of Elections or from home, if you aren’t sure you’ll be able to make it to the polls.”
