SERINO TO HOST KICK-OFF RALLY TO SUPPORT HER PETITION DRIVE FOR THE STOPCOMMONCORE LINE

County Legislator Sue Serino (R,C,I-Hyde Park), candidate for the 41st State Senate District, will host a kick-off rally to launch her petition effort to establish the StopCommonCore line on Saturday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. The rally and petition drive will be held at Serino’s campaign headquarters, 4290 Albany Post Road in Hyde Park. Following the flawed implementation of Common Core during this past school year, Serino felt it is especially important for residents to know exactly where she stands on the issue.

“As a mother, I have watched the disastrous implementation of Common Core with great concern for our young people and the future of our education system,” said Serino. “As I have been going door-to-door across the district, I have repeatedly heard horror stories from parents whose children have been left devastated by Common Core. That’s why I’ve joined the petition drive, to send a clear message to everyone where I stand on this important issue. I look forward to everyone’s support and encourage everyone to come by on Saturday and help us launch the StopCommonCore ballot line.”

Serino is being joined in her effort by local education activist.

“Common Core has been a total disaster here in New York State. Both NY State’s Governor and the Commissioner of Education have failed us and have put children directly in harm’s way. Students are being exploited and used as human lab mice without permission or consent of parents because of Common Core. This was rolled out by businessmen who never met your children, or their teachers and only see your child as a potential worker. Contrary to popular belief, NO teachers were involved in developing the standards. Everyone, especially parents and teachers, deserves to know where their legislators stand on this issue and I’m proud to stand with Sue against these misguided education standards,” said Christopher Zaleski, of New Yorkers United for Kids.

“Common Core is a mechanism the federal government is using to gain control of our education system. It was implemented four years ago without public or legislative discourse, and is hurting our children by using experimental education techniques. We need to protect our children and bring local control back to education,” said Anne LaValle, a Wappingers School District parent.

Those interested in joining the effort should contact Serino’s campaign at (845) 475-1188 or email sueserino4ny@gmail.com.

SERINO ANNOUNCES STOP COMMON CORE CAMPAIGN

County Legislator Sue Serino (R,C,I-Hyde Park), candidate for the 41st State Senate District, will join gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino and others across the state to form the StopCommonCore line on this year’s ballot. Following the flawed implementation of Common Core during this year’s school year, Serino says it is especially important for residents to know exactly where she stands on the issue.

Those interested in joining the effort should contact Serino’s campaign headquarters at (845) 475-1188.

“Common Core is failing New York’s students; as a mother, I understand setting high standards for our children is vital for their success and development. However, I strongly believe that over-testing and forcing our children into a one-size-fits-all policy are terrible mistakes,” said Serino. “We need to get government out of the classroom, and turn to our teachers and education stakeholders for guidance on how to improve the education system in New York. Our children’s education is far too important to leave up to bureaucrats concerned with manufactured numbers, rather than our community’s needs. I will be petitioning to get on the StopCommonCore line to stand up for teachers, parents, and students who feel as though they have been failed by Albany. I’m inviting mothers, fathers, students, teachers and more to volunteer their time to ensure we are able to vote on this important issue in November.”

“Common Core is a mechanism the federal government is using to gain control of our education system. It was implemented four years ago without public or legislative discourse, and is hurting our children by using experimental education techniques. We need to protect our children and bring local control back to education,” said Anne LaValle, a Wappingers School District parent.

Gipson Putting Law-Abiding Citizens Second

For Immediate Release: June 17, 2014

Contact: Krista Gobins (845) 380-6452

GIPSON, SENATE DEMOCRATS CONTINUE PUTTING LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS SECOND

Proposal would provide voting rights to all, regardless of residency

State Senate candidate Sue Serino (R,C,I- Hyde Park) is calling on Terry Gipson and Senate Democrats to stop putting law-abiding citizens on the backburner. With only days left in the legislative session, Gipson and the Senate Democrats continue to highlight their out of touch beliefs, this time introducing legislation that would grant non-citizens the right to vote. Under the proposal, introduced as the “New York is Home Act,” millions of illegal aliens and resident, non-citizens would be extended the right to vote in local and state elections and hold public office. According to reports, provisions of the bill would also open up access to state tuition assistance, health insurance programs, welfare benefits and driver's licenses for illegal aliens.

“Instead of being focused on reducing taxes and making New York a more affordable place to live, Terry Gipson and the New York City-led Senate Democrats are pulling election year stunts to garner votes from those who aren’t citizens,” said Serino. “Unfortunately for the people of the HudsonValley, we've already seen where our senator stands when it comes to putting his residents first. Gipson has consistently demonstrated he’s out of touch with the values of his constituents; repeatedly showing loyalty to party bosses in place of Hudson Valley residents. After he put college aid for local students at risk in March when he voted for the DREAM Act, how can we trust that he won’t do the same when it comes to the right to vote? HudsonValley residents don't want their legislator pushing liberal interpretations of our Constitution; they want lower tax bills and more money for their children’s schooling.”

In March, Gipson joined the Senate Democrats to vote in favor of the DREAM Act. If enacted, the proposal would have taken upwards of $20 million in education funding from middle-class students who are preparing to go to college.

“We should not be giving illegal aliens, who broke law to get into this country, the ability to vote in our elections and run for office. As your senator, I will protect the right to vote and the right to a quality education for our young people. Our residents deserve to hear their senator's position on this issue. Terry Gipson should make it clear if he plans to sell out the hardworking men and women of Dutchess and Putnam counties again for his New York City-based leadership?” concluded Serino.

Terry Gipson's Lies

STATEMENT BY SERINO FOR SENATE SPOKESPERSON KRISTA GOBINS

June, 17, 2014

Hyde Park-- The following statement was issued by Serino for Senate spokesperson Krista Gobins regarding Terry Gipson's lies:

"It's sad that Tax Hike Terry is so afraid of Sue Serino's solid record, that he has already resorted to lies. This isn't even a typical political lie. This is a bold faced, all out, complete lie. Tax Hike Terry has set a new standard for gutter politics and there is still six months to go.

Tax Hike Terry is desperate and scared. He should be scared. Sue Serino showed her strength and independence when she voted against her own party. By voting no on the horrible energy tax, Sue proved to the entire region that she is an independent public servant, and will always do what's right for our seniors, small business owners, working families, veterans and struggling Hudson Valley residents.

Tax Hike Terry has proven that his loyalty lies with the ultra liberal New York City Democrats. So out of touch with his district, he voted to block a repeal of the Senate Democrat 18a energy tax. Tax Hike Terry voted yes to spend millions of dollars to send illegal immigrants to college for free. He also voted to give violent felons a free education, while voting against legislation that would provide seniors with relief from their prescription costs.

Tax Hike Terry can lie about Sue Serino's record all day long, but if he is going to distort the facts, his time may be better spent lying about his own."
