This week the coalition of labor supporting Dutchess County Legislator and 41st state Senate District candidate Sue Serino (R,C,I-Hyde Park) has continued to grow. Joining CSEA and others, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) has now announced their endorsement of Serino for State Senate.
In a letter to Serino, Brian McDonnell, Political and Legislative Director for AFSCME New York, said “The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is pleased to endorse your campaign for NYS Senate. This endorsement is based on your support of issues of importance to public and non-profit employees. We wish you the best of luck in your campaign and look forward to working with you to improve the lives of all New Yorkers now and in the future.”

AFSCME is New York’s largest public service union with over 420,000 members from six affiliates including CSEA, District Council 37, District Council 1707, District Council 66, AFSCME Council 82 and AFSCME Council 35. AFSCME represent workers in every city, county, town, village and school district in New York State, as well as people who care for the sick and elderly in public hospitals and nursing homes. Members also care for the mentally ill, the disabled and the infirmed. Law enforcement members of AFSCME maintain public safety and security.
AFSCME joins a labor coalition that already includes CSEA, Uniformed Firefighters Association- FDNY, the Uniformed EMT’s Paramedics & Fire Inspectors- Local 2507 FDNY, the Uniformed EMS Officers Union- Local 3621 FDNY, the Uniformed Fire Alarm Dispatchers Benevolent Association- FDNY, The Council of School Administrators & Supervisors, The New York City Deputy Sheriff’s Association, Nassau County Sheriff’s Correction Officer Benevolent Association, Westchester County Correction Officer Benevolent Association, Nassau County Police Medic Association Inc., Fire Marshal Benevolent Association of Nassau County- Local 246, SEIU Automotive Mechanical, Motor Vehicle Operations Union- Local 983, Suffolk County Court Association, and The Organization of Staffing Analysts.
