STATEMENT FROM SUE SERINO: On NYS Budget Stealing Money from Dutchess County

HYDE PARK, NY - Candidate for Dutchess County Executive and Former State Senator Sue Serino released the following statement in response to the State Legislature and Governor withholding federal aid through a budgetary cash-grab from New York localities to help pay for Medicaid over the next three years:

“Governor Hochul is stealing social safety net funding from Dutchess County for her own frivolous projects, and she’s going to force enormous property tax increases on us. This move will be devastating for those most vulnerable residents who rely on the County's medicaid funded programs, while also increasing their cost of living. It’s completely unacceptable and I will not stand for it.”

Dutchess County stands to lose over $6 million annually because of this decision. It’s imperative that we push back on the state and plead with our federal representatives for help.”

The measure was included in the Governor’s Executive Budget with an impact of about $625 million. Despite both the NYS Senate and Assembly eliminating the proposed measure in their respective one-house budgets, it did make it into the Final FY2024 Budget with an impact of over $774 million.

Sue Serino previously served as the New York State Senator for the 41st District from 2015-2022, was a Dutchess County Legislator from 2011 to 2014 and a Member of the Hyde Park Town Board from 2010 to 2011.
